Is this a manifestation of church’s power and wealth? But first we have to feed those dying children and educate them that we value first this earth over the one after life.
In a rare pro-science move the Holy See has approved a hundred megawatt solar power plant which will cost two-thirds of a billion dollars. This is a marked improvement over the Church’s usual approach to scientific breakthroughs, which is to ban the idea, burn the person who came up with it, and tell everyone who even thinks it that they’ll be tortured forever.
Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo was interviewed about the project, and it seems the reporter caught him the day he was auditioning as a Bond Villain. We swear to God (who this guy knows) these are his words: “Now is the time to strike”, said Giovanni, who we must now credit with the badassest statement about renewable energy ever. “One should take advantage of the crisis to try and develop these renewable-energy sources to the maximum, which in the long run will reap incomparable rewards.”…
…Pope Benedict XVI did identify pollution as one of the new “Seven Social Sins”, which lack the timeless values of the old ones but are more aimed at the modern day.
